Forward Motion Starts Here

I’m grateful for the power of our minds…

In life, we basically have three choices… we can either move forward, stay where we are, or move backwards.  Every decision we make falls into one of these categories.

Every advancement in society has come from someone making a decision to move forward.  Take the automobile for example.  From the beginning of time, people have wanted to find ways to move forward.  In order for this to happen, decisions had to be made, experiments tried, and even many failed attempts occurred.  If everyone had quit at those moments of perceived failures, we would not have the wide range of transportation opportunities that we have today.  I took this picture when I was at a conference that talked about moving forward in our lives in many different ways.  As I walked out of the building we were meeting in at the Salt Lake Community College, I noticed this picture above the entrance to the automotive training building.  It really caught my eye because all the training I was receiving at the conference was about moving forward.

Sometimes life can be very hard.  And sometimes we can make it harder than it needs to be.  No matter how hard things are, we still have choices on how we are going to respond to those trials.  Sometimes the circumstances are out of our control, and moving forward during those times can be very difficult.  But no matter what is going on in our lives, we still have choices… we can move forward, stay where we are, or move backwards.  When there’s nothing we can do to change our circumstances, we can at least choose our attitudes and way of thinking about things; our perspective.  This may not seem like much help in some situations, but it really can be the thing that makes all the difference for us.

I’ve personally found this to be true in my life.  Positive thinking, recognizing things in my life to be grateful for, and continually fighting in my mind for more answers and something better has made a big difference for me as I’ve faced many different challenges.  No, positive thinking hasn’t magically cured me of my illness (although I do believe this is possible and that some people have achieved this).  It hasn’t stopped me from having bad days and moments of sadness or times of depression.  It hasn’t been my cure-all.  But it has made a difference.  It’s helped me to keep moving forward when otherwise I’ve wanted to give up and give in to my circumstances.  It’s helped me to continue to search for answers and to have hope for healing.  For me it’s made the difference between just tolerating the journey and trying to move forward and find joy in the journey.  I’m still not where I want to be, but I’m still seeking; and I’m not giving up! It takes work every day, but the more I practice gratitude and positive thinking, the more it helps me to move forward toward my goals.

To all my friends out there… keep moving forward! Don’t give in, and don’t give up.  There is hope, and there are answers just around the corner.  Keep moving forward toward them!
